IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ATHLETICS AT ST. FRANCIS Fall Sports Tryouts, etc.: The official start of the fall sports season is Friday, August 10th. Please be reminded that a student may not participate in the official start of any sport until the following has been completed: 1. A Student Physical Screening Form has been submitted to the Main Office. This must be done once each year; a physician must examine the student-athlete and fill out portions of the form. The form is available for download on the school’s website (see “parents” section, “forms”). 2. Signature portion of the Department of Athletics Participation Regulations has been submitted to the Main Office; this is done once in a student-athlete’s high school years. 3. The ImPact Concussion Test has been completed; this is done once in a student-athlete’s high school years. All students who need to take the concussion test, must come to the computer lab with their signed consent form. The form is available for download on the school’s website (see “parents” section, “forms”). Concussion Pre-Participation Screening: All students participating in sports at St. Francis must participate in a concussion monitoring program sponsored by the school, called ImPact. ImPact is a computerized test that takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It records cognitive responses and reaction time to create a baseline score. If a suspected concussion is sustained, an athlete will retest and the results will be available for doctors to help diagnose the concussion, as well as help determine a return-to-play timeline for the athlete. The pre-participation test is taken only once in a high school career; so many returning students did their tests last year. However, all incoming freshmen, as well as all incoming transfer students, must take the test before participating in sports (summer workouts included). So, too, must any student who chooses to play sports who did not take the test last year. The first official day of practice is August 10th, however if you plan on participating in summer workouts before August 10th - you must have a concussion test completed, as well as a physical by your doctor and all St. Francis paperwork turned in to the main office! Below are drop-in times that you may report to the Computer Lab to take the concussion test: Wednesday, June 6th: 10am - 12pm* Thursday, June 7th 2pm - 4pm* Friday, June 8th 2pm - 4pm* * Please remember to bring with you your sign consent form. The form is available for download on the school’s website (see “parents” section, “forms”). The Director of Information Technologies, Mr. Watson, will administer the test. Reminder: a student may not participate in any summer or fall workouts until he or she has taken the concussion test. |
